KADAPA: Union Minister of State for Steel A. Sai Prathap on Monday ruled out introduction of a Bill for according statehood for Telangana without the involvement of the State government, as demanded by TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao. The Governor’s consent, forwarding of the Chief Minister’s report, passing of a resolution in the State Legislative Assembly and the President’s consent were mandatory before introducing the Bill in Parliament, he told newsmen at the residence of Rayachoti legislator G. Srikanth Reddy at Ramapuram in Lakkireddipalle constituency. Maintaining that a second States’ Reorganisation Committee (SRC) report was imperative for the formation of separate Telangana, the Minister lambasted KCR for exerting pressure on the UPA government to give a concrete assurance on the Telangana issue. He accused Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao of “politicking” for furthering his self-centred interests and inciting students to be in the forefront of the pro-Telangana movement and thereby ruining their academic career. Referring to development in the railways sector, Mr. Sai Prathap said tenders would soon be called for Rs. 58-crore works on Kadapa-Bangalore railway line. A meeting was convened with NMDC officials on January 29 for reaching an agreement on excavation of nearly 100 million tonnes of iron ore available in the district and to discuss the proposals for setting up a second steel plant in Kadapa, the Minister stated. Plans were afoot to bring the gold mines in Chittoor district under the NMDC’s purview. Mr. Sai Pratap said he had discussed with Union Minister M.M. Pallam Raju the proposals to set up a sainik school in Ramapuram mandal.
