Eight MLAs go on relay fast

Staff Reporter

NIZAMABAD: Eight of nine MLAs from the district staged a relay hunger strike organised here on Monday under the banner of Telangana JAC demanding the Centre to initiate steps to create Telangana State.

Stating that the demand was five decade-old and genuine, they said that the movement had gone down to the common man and if the Centre failed to come out with a deadline, it would be responsible for the consequences.

The fasting MLAs unanimously resolved that all the legislators from the region, irrespective of their political affiliations, should resign on January 28 abiding by the JAC resolution to mount pressure on the Centre. The lone Congress MLA from the district P. Sudarshan Reddy abstained from the hunger strike.

Finding fault with Congress MP Kavuri Sambasiva Rao’s alleged comments, PR legislator E. Anil demanded that he withdraw ‘unwarranted’ and ‘baseless’ accusations.
