Ghana, Algeria in last four
LUANDA: Both host Angola and hot favourite Ivory Coast were dumped out of the African Nations Cup on Sunday as Algeria and Ghana advanced to the last four.
Angola lost 1-0 to Ghana in their quarterfinal tie in Luanda despite the support of a capacity 50,000-strong crowd, while the dreams of Didier Drogba and his Ivorian side faded in a dramatic contest in Cabinda.
Algeria twice came from behind to beat the Ivorians 3-2 in extra time to complete a remarkable recovery after losing its opening game at the tournament 3-0 to lowly Malawi.
The results: Algeria 3 (Matmour 40, Bougherra 90+2, Bouazza 92) bt Ivory Coast 2 (Kalou 4, Keita 89); Ghana 1 (Gyan 16) bt Angola 0. — Agencies
