So far, over 1,000 post offices have been modernised in 500 districts The new project involves upgrading of 727 more post offices NEW DELHI: The Department of Posts is going to spend over Rs.100 crore on modernising and upgrading 727 post offices under the fourth phase of its ambitious “Project Arrow”. “So far, over 1,000 post offices have been modernised in 500 districts across India with an investment of Rs.152 crore. We will further expand this project in the next fiscal year to upgrade 727 post offices,” said Union Minister of State for Communication and Information Technology Sachin Pilot on Monday after inaugurating the new-look Lodhi Road head post office upgraded under the project. Stating that the ambitious project had enabled post offices to play a larger role in socio-economic transformation of the country by taking up new challenges and tasks, Mr. Pilot pointed out that a steep rise has been recorded in the revenues of post offices upgraded under the project. “The modernised post offices offer many e-enabled services such as electronic money orders, instant money orders and computerised savings accounts. The new-look post offices are equipped with new computers, peripherals, new counters and infrastructure. There is an overall improvement in the look and feel of these post offices,” he said. The Lodhi Road post office is the sixth out of 36 in the Delhi Postal Circle to be fully renovated under Project Arrow. Established in June 1949 as a sub post office, it was upgraded to a head post office in May 1979. Chief Post Master General (Delhi Circle) P. K. Gopinath was among those present on the occasion.
