NTPC distributes aid to differently-abled

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: Ramulamma, an agricultural worker from Marupalli Mandal of Vikarabad, heaved a sigh of relief on Monday when her 10-year-old differently-abled and mentally-challenged daughter Sujatha was given a wheel-chair by National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) Limited.

Sujatha and 104 others were given crutches, wheel-chairs, tricycles, artificial limbs and sticks as part of NTPC’s corporate social responsibility initiatives on the eve of the Republic Day.

Hailing from Vikarabad in Ranga Reddy district, all the 105 beneficiaries were identified by the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) which, in turn, submitted the list to NTPC.

Ambarish Nath Dave, Regional Executive Director (South), NTPC who gave away the aids at Hari Hala Kala Bhavan here, said the initiative was just a small part of the company’s constant endeavour to give back to society.

“Public Sector companies too have now come forward to help the poor and needy,” Mr. Dave said.

Competitions

On this occasion, the ladies club of NTPC Dakshin Deepanjali Mahila Samithi also conducted various competitions for differently-abled students.

Over 300 children from five different organisations such as Sweekar-Upkaar, etc. participated. The day culminated in a cultural programme by visually-challenged students.
