Mother, two daughters injured in accident

NEW DELHI: A young woman and her two minor daughters, who were sleeping on the pavement, were injured when a car hit them in Inderpuri here in the early hours of Monday. The driver was released on bail after being arrested.

Amit Singh and his friend were returning from Karol Bagh when he allegedly lost control near a roundabout around 2 a.m. The vehicle veered off the road on to the pavement, injuring 35-year-old Jyoti. Her two daughters, five-year-old Neelam and two-month-old Sarita, escaped with minor injuries.

Others sleeping on the pavement were woken up by the screeching sound. They overpowered the driver and handed him over to the police. The police have registered a case and got the driver medically examined. Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-West Delhi) K. Jegadesan said Amit has also been booked under Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act (drunken driving). The injured were taken to Lady Hardinge Medical College .
