Camp

The Labour Department will conduct a camp in Kinathukadavu on February 12 to enrol members for the labour welfare boards.

According to a release from the department, 15 welfare boards have been formed for workers in various sectors. The Unorganised Workers’ Labour Welfare Board is functioning on the Coimbatore Marketing Committee premises on Trichy Road. In December 2009, the board disbursed Rs. 1.84 lakh educational assistance in Coimbatore District. It also disbursed Rs. 44,000 as marriage assistance to 22 workers, Rs. 48,000 maternity assistance to eight workers, Rs. 3.4 lakh to families of 20 workers who died of natural cause for their last rites, Rs. 2,000 to four workers for purchase of spectacles. As many as 326 workers who have registered with the board and are aged over 60 received Rs. 1.3 lakh pension in December 2009.

New fund

Fidelity Mutual Fund has announced a new fund offer for the Fidelity Global Real Assets Fund that will be invested mainly in the Fidelity Funds. The new fund offer is open till January 29.

New identity

Dhanalakshmi Bank has unveiled a new logo that will be in fresh purple.

The bank name will be spelt as Dhanlaxmi.

Recognition

Seshadri Ramkumar, Associate Professor on Nonwovens and Advanced Materials at the Institute of Environmental and Human Health at Texas Tech University, USA, has been awarded Chancellor’s Council Distinguished Research Award recently.

The special focus of his research is to find value-added applications to cotton and other natural fibres using emerging technologies. He has conducted several workshops and conferences on nonwoven textiles in Coimbatore.
