Gandhi statue found damaged

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: A statue of Mahatma Gandhi was found damaged in Tiruvottiyur on Tuesday.

According to police sources, a group of Congress cadre who went to clean and garland the statue in Kaladipettai on the occasion of Republic Day found the wrist in the right arm of the statue broken.

The cadre resorted to a road-roko agitation demanding action against those responsible for damaging the statue.

Police pacified the agitators to disperse after promising to take appropriate action, the sources added.
