Bangalore: The total earnings of Bangalore division of South Western Railway, from January to December 2009, has registered an increase of 4 per cent over the earnings of the corresponding period last year, Divisional Railway Manager Akhil Agrawal has said. The total earnings of the division is Rs. 613 crore.
A press release here on Tuesday said that Mr. Agrawal, during the Republic Day address here, commended the SWR for registering a growth of 15 per cent in passenger traffic and 3 per cent in freight traffic.
Regarding the other achievements of the division, he said priority had been given to safe train operations, which had helped the division improve its safety performance.
He also said that the Bangalore Division had identified 14 major stations for development as model and modern stations by providing full-fledged facilities and better amenities for passengers. Model stations at Kengeri, Dharmapuri and Tumkur had also been inaugurated. He said greater emphasis had been paid to the improvement of passenger amenities in other stations as well.
The Izzat ticket, a monthly season ticket costing Rs. 25 for travel up to 100 km radius, had been introduced for passengers from poor socio-economic backgrounds, the release added.
