Plea to hold recruitment test for computer instructors dismissed

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has dismissed a petition by the Tamil Nadu Computer Science B. Ed Graduate Teachers Welfare Society seeking a direction to the State government to conduct recruitment test for appointing computer instructors in government higher secondary schools in existing vacancies. The petitioner had said that applications should be invited from all candidates who had the eligible qualification of a computer degree with B. Ed degree and had registered with the employment exchange in terms of the directions of the Supreme Court in an earlier case in July last year.

Consequently, the government should be directed to complete the selection process in accordance with the directions of the Supreme Court. In his order, Justice K. Chandru referred to the clarifications issued by the Supreme Court in November last year rectifying the typographical errors that had crept into its earlier order dated July 9 last year. A perusal of the clarification would show that the present exam was only for a particular class of candidates as ordered by the Supreme Court. Even the State government’s policy decision taken was to absorb those candidates as they had already put in six years of teaching in schools.

The members of the petitioner society were yet to enter service. Hence, they could not compare themselves with candidates who were allowed to write the examination. Those who were not covered by the order could not get into the fray. There was no violation of Article 14.

Mr. Justice Chandru said the writ petition lacked any merit and was misconceived.
