Thulasidharan scripts Sindhi’s win

CHENNAI: Thulasidharan’s seven for 33 enabled Sindhi defeat Jaya by 118 runs in the M.A.M. Muthiah Kumararajah of Chettinad Memorial inter-collegiate cricket tournament here.

The scores: Annai Velankani 94 in 20.2 overs (Durai 31, Prem four for 19, Punit three for 21) lost to KRMM 95 for two in 12 overs (Kajavathanan 34).

Mar Gregorious 105 in 22.3 overs (Manoj Kumar 28, Vinod three for five, Lingesh three for 25) lost to Dr. BCCC Hindu 106 for five in 21 overs (Netaji 34, Muthu 33, Iqbal three for 27).

QMC 124 in 25 overs (Rafi 27, Manoj 27, Iyyappan three for 7, Srinivas three for 22) bt Kandasamy Naidu 115 for seven in 25 overs (Gopi 37).

Rohanth shines

G. Rohanth Paul (54) helped St. Michael’s beat PS SSS by 70 runs in the Vidya Mandir-Sportstar under-14 cricket tournament on Wednesday.

The matches between Vidya Mandir ‘B’ and Hindu SSS, St. John’s and Chettinad Vidyashram, and Don Bosco and Maharishi Vidya Mandir were abandoned because of rain.

The scores: Bhavan’s Rajaji Vidyashram 38 in 20.2 overs (Dhruva V. Rao three for 17) lost to Vidya Mandir ‘A’ 40 for no loss in 4.1 overs.

Santhome 146 in 28.4 overs (M. Prasana 53) lost to PSBB (K.K. Nagar) 149 for eight in 29.2 overs (Abiram Vyas 36, Ravikumar three for 28).

St. Michael’s 165 for four in 30 overs (G. Rohanth Paul 54, M. Anton Andrew 25, S. Vignesh 37) bt PS SSS 95 in 30 overs (Sherian 35, M. Vivian three for 18).

Hindustan in semifinals

Hindustan University stormed into the semifinals of the K.C.G. Verghese memorial inter-collegiate football tournament with a 5-0 whipping of SVCE here on Wednesday. Christian scored a brace for Hindustan who will play Loyola in the semifinal. The other semifinal will be contested between Sathyabama University and Jeppiar Engineering.

Nishanth, Kiruthika win titles

Nishanth Nandakumar of PSBB (K.K. Nagar) and S. Kiruthika (Rukmini) clinched the senior boys’ and girls’ titles respectively in the Republic Day Cup-Velammal International Stag international schools table tennis tournament for non-rankers at the Hall of TT, Nehru Stadium, here recently.

Vijayaraghavan and Suri take the honours

R. Vijayaraghavan and T.M. Suri won the weekly pair bridge event at the T. Nagar Social Club with a score of 62.02 percent playing East-West.

R.V.S. Manian and N. Anant were the North-South winners with a score of 61.86 percent.

ARAE regatta

The Madras Boat Club is hosting the 68th ARAE regatta, featuring over a hundred oarsmen and women from nine clubs belonging to the Amateur Rowing Association of the East. The event, which began on Monday, will conclude on January 30.

The clubs that are vying for the Hooghly Cup (men’s overall trophy) and the Adyar Cup (women’s) include the host, four from Kolkata, one each from Bangalore and Pune, and two outstation clubs — the Karachi Boat Club and the Bolgoda Lake Rowing Club, Colombo.

“We are happy to announce that Aircel has agreed to sponsor the event,” said A. Venkat, Secretary, Madras Boat Club, at a press meet on Wednesday.

The event will comprise 75 races in a repechage format. “Since this is a very equipment-intensive sport, and considering the need for the participants to get used to our equipment, we decided on the repechage format to ensure that teams that lose in the first round still have a chance,” said M.V. Sriram, Secretary, Rowing Federation of India.

TT tournament

The Medimix-Madras District table tennis championship will be held on January 30 and 31 at the Academy premises, D. G. Vaishnav College. The tournament has attracted 300 entries in 12 categories. G. Sathiyan, Commonwealth Youth singles champion will be the star attraction.

Pool Nationals

The 8-ball and 9-ball Pool Nationals will be held in New Delhi from February 15. Players who wish to participate can contact the Tamil Nadu Billiards and Snooker Association at 24984940 for registration details. The entry fee is Rs. 1,000 per event for men and Rs. 500 per event for women.
