Colourful: An event at Milan ’10, a national level cultural fest at SRM University, Kattankulathur on Wednesday. CHENNAI: Colleges playing host to cultural fests stand out from the rest. Shimmering lights and the aesthetic elements apart, they have students hanging around the campus, sporting bright smiles and indulging in unending talks. Their energy levels also reach incredible heights as evident at ‘Milan 10,’ a national-level cultural fest that opened on Wednesday at SRM University, Kattankulathur, near here. Chief guest at the inaugural session DMDK leader Vijayakant called upon the students to realise their responsibilities and focus more on education. “Multi-language and soft skills have become inevitable in today’s scenario. Students must develop an interest in learning more languages to become job-ready,” he told the gathering. Thousands of students from more than 300 colleges are participating in the three-day fest as part of which a host of events, including literary programmes and photography and dance competitions, have been scheduled. On day one, small patches of rangoli filled the aisles of the university campus, as girls and boys rushed towards Hall 1 where the highlight for the day — a session on filmmaking was held. Aayirathil Oruvan team — actors Karthi, Reema Sen and Andrea and director Selvaraghavan — held the crowd in rapture. So did the dance group from John Britto, who had students on their toes during the four-hour dance show. The day rounded off with a pro-show by singer Karthik.
