VISAKHAPATNAM: Stakeholders, who took part in a workshop on free education to all up to 14 years after enactment of New Education Bill, 2009, advocated extension of the facility even for those who crossed the age limit. At the regional consultation held here on Wednesday, the participants highlighted the rights of children as a main thrust for the enactment. Out-of-school children should be admitted to a class appropriate to their age and imparted special training to help them as part of the policy, the participants stated. In a resolution, the workshop wanted that children should not be held back, expelled, or required to pass a board examination until Class 8. In this connection, the network and teacher community felt the need for more government initiation and social responsiveness for free quality education. They also sought compulsory earmarking of 25 per cent of seats in private schools.
