Feedback: Poongothai Aladi Aruna, Minister for Information and Technology, interacting with patients at Alavanthankulam on Thursday. TIRUNELVELI: A total of 2,74,116 patients have been so far screened and treated in the 303 medical camps conducted in the district under the ‘Varumun Kaappom’ scheme, Minister for Information and Technology Poongothai Aladi Aruna has said. Inaugurating a medical camp at Alavanthaankulam near Maanur in the district on Thursday, Dr. Poongothai said of the 2.74 lakh patients screened in the camps, 4,605 were referred for further treatment. Collector M. Jayaraman said the deprived people in the rural areas should be aware of the welfare schemes like ‘Varumun Kaappom’ and the health insurance scheme so that they could lead a healthy life without spending much. The Minister later inaugurated a community hall and shops constructed at East Thiruvenkatam.
