CHENNAI: A full emergency was declared at the Chennai airport on Wednesday night after a fire warning system was activated in an aircraft belonging to a courier company. The flight landed safely.

According to airport sources, the Boeing 737, with three persons on board, belonging to Blue Dart Aviation, departed from the Chennai airport around 10.50 in the night to the Shamshabad airport in Hyderabad.

Within 15 minutes the pilot informed the airport authorities that the fire warning system in the auxiliary power unit of the aircraft had been activated. The pilot asked the airport authorities to have fire tenders in place.

Following this a full emergency was declared around 11.25 p.m. Soon after the flight landed, a team of officials from the airport fire services inspected the aircraft but no fire was detected. The aircraft was towed to the remote parking bay.
