Eshwarappa vacates official bungalow

Special Correspondent

Bangalore: Minister for Energy, K.S. Eshwarappa on his election as president of the State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party resigned from the Yeddyurappa Ministry and the Chief Minister, soon after receipt of the resignation letter, forwarded it to the Governor H.R. Bhardwaj.

After attending his last Cabinet meeting, Mr. Eshwarappa submitted his resignation to the Chief Minister in the presence of the media and said he would like to abide by the one-man-one-post formula. He announced that he had already vacated his official bungalow.

Mr. Eshwarappa announced the appointment of 1,234 junior and assistant engineers apart from accounts officers for the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited and the several Escoms in the State. The Chief Minister, aided by a laptop put on the government website, released the provisional list of the candidates who have been appointed for the posts. The process of recruitment had commenced in August last year and it is the first time that the recruitment process has been fully computerised and the candidates have been selected based on merit.

Mr. Yeddyurappa said a similar transparent procedure has been adopted for the recruitment of 2,500 panchayat development officers which is presently in progress. He said “I am confident that with Mr. Eshwarappa taking charge as the State president, the BJP will do even more better in the next legislative assembly elections and obtain a two-thirds majority winning at least 140 to 150 of the 224 seats.”
