Ex gratia sought for hooch victims

Sharing grief: PR president Chiranjeevi consoling the family of a hooch victim in Gangalakurthi Agraharam of Ambajipeta mandal in Konaseema on Thursday. –

Gangalakurthi Agraharam (Konaseema): Praja Rajyam president K. Chiranjeevi has demanded that political leaders behind the illicit liquor brewing should be brought to book and punished stringently without any partisan attitude. He also demanded Rs.5 lakh compensation to each of the family who died in the hooch tragedy that has taken 14 lives till Thursday night.

In a surprise visit on Thursday evening to this tiny village where 8 people have died in Ambajipeta mandal, Chiranjeevi straight away went to the thatched house of Chittimenu Srinivasa Rao who died in the hooch tragedy and consoled his wife Venkata Lakshmi and gave Rs.10,000. He said that women should educate their men on bad habits and control them against consuming liquor. He said that women should fight against illicit liquor brewers and in this particular incident he suspected large scale involvement of political leaders in illicit liquor brewing in entire Konaseema area.

After Gangalakurthi Agraharam he went to Bandarulanka on the outskirts of Amalapuram, where four persons succumbed to illicit liquor.

He spoke to Vundurthi Suryanarayana family and also gave Rs.10,000 to Satyavati, wife of the deceased and demanded the government to announce ex gratia immediately.

Former Minister Metla Satyanarayana, MLA Vanga Geetha and other PRP leaders accompanied Chiranjeevi who left for Kakinada General Hospital where 200 and above are being treated.
