ONGOLE: Minister for Handlooms and Textile Balineni Srinivasa Reddy said that the cabinet sub-committee would meet soon to decide on loan waiver scheme for handloom weavers cooperative societies amounting to Rs. 312 crore. Speaking to newspersons here on Thursday, he said that he became the chairman of the sub-committee after K Rosaiah relinquished it on his elevation to Chief Minister post. He said that the government received representation that the loan waiver scheme should be implemented to individual weavers rather to prevent some bogus societies knock away the benefit. The sub committee would consider the representation. The minister said that the government was considering a proposal to provide financial assistance of Rs. One lakh to each weaver family with 10 per cent subsidy and 90 per cent bank loan to rejuvenate the economy of the community in distress. The government already decided to enhance the credit limit of cooperative societies from Rs. 15,000 to Rs one lakh at pavala vaddi to stimulate their activities. To a question on steep rise in yarn prices that affected employment of weavers, Mr Srinivasa Reddy said that he would meet spinning mill owners in the next couple of days and urge them to make hank yarn available at reasonable price to weavers. Asked whether the government would release any funds to Apco to help it lift stocks from cooperative societies, the Minister said that steps were being taken to clear the dues of Apco from various departments to improve its turnover capacity.
