‘Heli tourism’ for the adventurous

There will be visits from Hyderabad to Nagarjunasagar

HYDERABAD: The government has decided to introduce “heli adventure tourism” starting with visits by helicopter from Hyderabad to Nagarjunasagar and from Bangalore to Puttaparthi. The decision has been taken as the Centre has offered funds to develop this type of tourism.

Karnataka has made a beginning by developing as many 28 helipads.

Tourism Minister J. Geetha Reddy told reporters here on Monday that a new tourism and culture policy would be announced soon prescribing new guidelines and providing incentives to encourage projects.

The existing policy was framed in 1994 and after that the tourism scenario had undergone a vast change.

As part of the policy, about 200 policemen would be requisitioned from regular police force to provide security to visitors at 50 important tourism and archaeological sites, said P. Chenna Reddy, Director, Archaeology.

Ms. Reddy said Shilparamams would be constructed at Bhadrachalam and Sangareddy adding to the existing ones at Hyderabad, Tirupati, Visakhapatnam and Kadapa. Land required to set up another at Vijayawada was acquired.
