Second phase of panchayat polls in Rajasthan today

Jaipur: The second phase of panchayat polls to elect 337 zila parishad members and 1,702 panchayat samiti members will be held on Friday amid tight security, an official of the State Election Commission said here on Thursday.

“Polling will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. using electronic voting machines at 10,972 polling stations set up in 30 districts covering 85 panchayat samitis,” the official said. Over 97.37 lakh electorate would exercise its right of franchise.

The first phase of polling was held on January 20, and the third phase will be held on February 2, he said.

Nearly 1.34 lakh police personnel have been deployed to conduct free and fair elections, besides thousands of State employees working on the election duty. — PTI
