UDF will back government’s Munnar action, says Chandy
A Correspondent
idukki: Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy has extended the United Democratic Front’s support for any lawful action taken by the government for evicting encroachers in Munnar.
He told newsmen after visiting some of the areas on Thursday that the encroachers seemed to have followed the modus operandi of annexing vast areas of government land and selling them to developers. Revenue land and land belonging to various departments, worth lakhs of rupees, were involved. Blaming officials for their failure to protect government land, he wondered how they could refrain from taking action even when the encroachers had removed a board erected by Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan himself.
Mr. Chandy asked the government to take legal action against those guilty of encroachment. He urged the government to desist from any move to give compensation to the encroachers. He charged the CPI(M)) with confusing the matter by dragging settlers into the issue.
