Demonstration staged
Staff Reporter
Tirupur: Conservancy workers and overhead water tank operators employed with panchayat administration staged a demonstration with their mouths covered with black cloths in front of the Collectorate on Friday, demanding better payment.
The employees, affiliated to Centre of Indian Trade Unions, asked the authorities to implement the sixth pay commission report, which hiked their monthly consolidated pay from the present Rs. 600 to Rs. 1,430. Similarly, the pay arrears to the tune of Rs. 46,150 pending from 1992 should be disbursed to the workers soon. They also demanded that time scale pay should be given to the entire 1,500-odd conservancy workers and overhead water tank operators deployed at the 273 village panchayats in the district.
