KADAPA: The government should order release of water from Pothireddipadu head regulator to the KC Canal and Srisailam Right Branch Canal ayacuts up to April 15, Praja Rajyam Polit Bureau member C. Ramachandraiah demanded on Sunday. The government had issued orders to release water till February 16, but it would be inadequate to save the standing crops, Mr. Ramachandraiah, Praja Rajyam State secretary S. Nazeer Ahmed and district president B. Hariprasad said in a memorandum submitted to Collector Shashi Bhushan Kumar. Farmers who raised paddy, groundnut, sunflower, sugarcane, turmeric, mustard and water melon crops in about 30,000 acres, were hopeful of getting water till March end and a few leaders promised to ensure water release till then, they recalled. Officials concerned did not tell farmers not to take up fresh crops now. They wanted the 854 feet level maintained in Srisailam reservoir and release water till April 15 to extend a helping hand to farmers.
