Centre criticised for dilly-dallying on the statehood issue

IMPRESSIVE TURNOUT: Balladeer Vimalakka performing at a Telangana dhoom-dham programme at Mallapur village in Karimnagar district on Wednesday.

KARIMNAGAR: Karimnagar MLC Naradasu Laxman Rao has demanded that the Union government announce a committee for formation of Telangana instead of constituting a committee for consultations on separate State.

Flaying the Union government for dilly-dallying the statehood issue with unclear statements, he said the students of the region were resorting to suicides because of delay and no clarity on the formation of Telangana by the government.

He was addressing Telangana dhoom-dham in Mallapur village of Boinpalli mandal and Vidyarthi garjana in Gundi Gopalraopeta village of Ramadugu mandal on Wednesday.

Mental agony

Speaking on the occasion, he said students of the region were undergoing mental agony due to delay in the formation of Telangana as announced by the Union government and resorting to suicides out of frustration. Though, Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram said the Telangana region was peaceful, but psychologically students were in turmoil due to unclear statements of the government, he said and added that any moment the students would come back with a vengeance for the cause of Telangana statehood.

Demanding the elected representatives of the region to resign to their posts for the cause of Telangana, he said that the politicians should keep in mind that power was not ultimate.

They should have some social commitment and resign to their posts for the creation of Telangana and betterment of future generation, he added.

Earlier, the MLC took part in the human chain at Telangana Chowk along with JAC leaders including BJP leader P. Sugunakar Rao and others.
