PANAJI: The 27th session of the All India Konkani Parishad to be in Goa from February 5 to 7 will be attended by a large number of delegates from Karnataka, Kerala and Maharashtra apart from Goa. Gokuldas Prabhu, working president of parishad, told presspersons here on Tuesday, that Chief Minister Digambar Kamat would inaugurate the three-day conference at Sankhelim in north Goa. ArrangementsThe reception committee headed by Health Minister Vishwajit Rane had made all arrangements for successful conduct of the meet. During the inaugural function, Mr. Shantaram would take over the reins of the parishad from the outgoing president and Goa MP Shantaram Naik. Jnan Pith award-winning Konknai writer Ravindra Kelekar would be present, he said. Writer aria Aurora Couto and educationist Fr. Romuald D’Souza, who were recently conferred with Padma Shree, would be felicitated along with Jess Fernandes and N. Purushotthama Mallya, who won Sahitya Akademi awards for creative writing in Konkani and translation in Konkani, respectively. The parishad had so far organised 26 biennial sessions and 19 Konkani literary conferences at the national level which had offered valuable opportunities to the fragmented Konkani language community to discuss the linguistic, literary, educational, social and cultural issues which confronted it during the past seven decades. 16 associationsThe parishad has today grown into an all-India body to which 16 Konkani associations from Goa, Karnataka, Kerala and Maharashtra are affiliated, said Manikrao Gaunekar on behalf of the organisers.
