JAIPUR: The Rajasthan Government’s Public Health Engineering Department has installed over 10,700 new hand-pumps and bore-wells in the State’s urban as well as rural areas this past January under a contingency plan for supply of drinking water. According to an official release here, 9,000 of the newly-installed hand-pumps and bore-wells have started supplying drinking water, providing relief to people in the regions earlier facing scarcity. In addition to the digging of new hand-pumps and bore-wells, 2.85 lakh defective hand-pumps were repaired and 14,700 non-operational hand-pumps were removed. The release stated that drinking water was presently being supplied to 1,067 villages and 31 towns across the State through tankers.
