VIJAYAWADA: Even as it welcomed the Union government’s decision to constitute the Justice Srikrishna Committee to study the current political situation in Andhra Pradesh, the Krishna district unit of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) for Unified Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday made it clear that it would continue its programmes to create awareness among the people of Andhra and Rayalaseema regions about the importance of unified State till the government finalised the terms of reference of the committee. Addressing a press conference here, JAC chairman and former Minister Mandali Buddha Prasad said there was no clarity about various issues pertaining to the committee. “The Government is yet to allocate work to the committee. This is very rare because governments usually constitute committees only after finalising the work to be allocated to them,” he said. Mr. Buddha Prasad said it was grossly unfair on the part of a few leaders to interpret that the committee was formed only to bifurcate the State. “Let us wait till the government allocates duties to the committee,” he said. Telugu Desam Party MLC Y.V.B. Rajendra Prasad said that the “Leftist background” of the committee members was raising several doubts. “It is learnt that all the committee members are sympathisers of the Left parties. We hope it will not affect them from functioning neutrally,” he said. Praja Rajyam Party MLA Vellampalli Srinivas expressed confidence that the majority of the people of Andhra Pradesh were in favour of unified State and it would be recorded by the committee. Kolanukonda Sivaji of the Congress felt the need for a white paper on the revenues and spending of funds by the government in all the three regions of the State, before the committee commenced its duties. Former Minister Devineni Rajasekhar found fault with a section of the electronic media for maintaining that the formation of the committee was nothing but giving statehood to Telangana region. President of the JAC student wing Devineni Avinash, president of the National Students Union of India district unit N. Rajesh Babu and others were present.
