Youth Congress gets a new chief

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: First-time Maharashtra legislator and Pune University alumnus Rajeev Satav has been appointed the new president of the Indian Youth Congress. He replaces Ashok Tanwar.

Before his elevation Mr. Satav was president of the Maharashtra Youth Congress, a position he acquired in 2008 after a talent search initiated by Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi soon after taking charge of the party’s youth organisations.

Mr. Satav was elected to the Maharashtra Assembly in 2009 from Kalamnuri — a Shiv Sena stronghold wrested by the Congress after two decades. Mr. Satav’s appointment was announced by Mr. Gandhi at a meeting of Indian Youth Congress office-bearers here.
