For safe passage across Kulithalai bypass

Committee to meet district and NHAI officials

It is headed by Kulithalai MLA R. Manikkam

KULITHALAI: Elected people’s representatives and social activists belonging to Kulithalai and surrounding areas in Karur and Tiruchi districts have formed a struggle committee to highlight the need for a safe passage across the new Kulithalai bypass that bisects the town and river Cauvery near the Kadambakoil bathing ghat.

The demand that has been in the air ever since the formulation of the new road stretch a couple of years back, reached a crescendo with the formation of the committee headed by Kulithalai MLA R. Manikkam.

A meeting of like-minded elected representatives, politicians and social activists took place at the MLA’s office here in which the issue was discussed. The meeting also took stock of the developments following the raising of the demand and the response of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials besides the relevant High Court directive on a writ petition filed in the issue.

The meeting also noted that panchayats in the Kulithalai, Musiri and Thottiam areas have passed resolutions seeking a safe passage in the region towards religious and ritual needs on a daily basis. The struggle committee has been mandated to meet the district administration officials, NHAI officials and others who could play a vital role in heeding the people’s demands. Besides, the meeting also resolved to urge the panchayats and civic bodies that have passed resolutions to forward those to the relevant authorities. Former MLAs G. Kauppaiah and Thangavel Raj, Kulithalai Municipal Chairman A. Amudhavel, social activist R. C. Mamundia Pillai, and elected panchayat leaders from various places participated in the deliberations.
