Minister: action only after post-mortem report

KOLAR: Action will be initiated against culprits in the hooch tragedy which claimed five lives in Kolar district only after post-mortem report is received, Minister for Excise M.P. Renukacharya said.

The Minister was speaking to presspersons at Rayalpadu after meeting relatives of the victims on Friday.

“Till the post-mortem report comes, we won’t blame anybody,” the Minister said while clarifying that the Commissioner for Excise had the powers to take action against any erring local official.

About the hooch menace in the region, the Minister said: “Since the two States share the border, the police and excise officials of both Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh need to work together to tackle the issue.”

Members of the women’s self-help groups would be roped in to create awareness against arrack menace in rural areas, he said.

Srinivaspur MLA G.K. Venkatashiva Reddy, MLC Y.A. Narayanaswami, the former Speaker K.R. Rameshkumar, Deputy Commissioner N. Prabhakar and in-charge Superintendent of Police S.R. Phanindra Singh were present.
