Strict enforcement of lane system on Avanashi Road from Feb. 10

Staff Reporter

Coimbatore: In the wake of the depleting levels of compliance to the lane system of traffic on Avanashi Road, City Police Commissioner P. Sivanandi has announced that after educating motorists on the need to follow the lane system till February 9, the traffic police personnel will impose penalty on violators from February 10.

Mr. Sivanandi said that the traffic police had been advised to fit public address systems at traffic signals besides deploying police jeeps with public address systems to advice motorists by pointing out their vehicle numbers.

The objective of the system was to reduce accidents and ensure free flow of traffic on the Avanashi Road stretch.

The system was modified and adequate alterations were made on Avanashi Road conceding the requests, suggestions and feedbacks of the motorists. Even then, they were found to be violating the system.

Efforts would be made to educate the motorists from Saturday to Tuesday night as the police believed more in education than enforcement, Mr.Sivanandi said.

Penalty

In the event of the motorists violating the signals of the police, the traffic police would impose penalty on them from Wednesday, he added.
