KOCHI: The Asian-Pacific aquaculture conference and exposition, organised by the World Aquaculture Society, will be held in the city in from January 17 to 21, 2011. The conference will be held at Hotel Le Meridian. An exclusive conference on fresh water prawns—Great Prawn 2011—will also be organised in this relation, Fisheries Minister S. Sarma said. The Kerala Fisheries Department and the College of Fisheries of the Kerala Agricultural university will jointly host the conference. The theme of the conference will be ‘aquaculture, the future is here.’ The State government has released Rs. 25 lakh for the conference. The conference will be held in India for the first time. The organisers expect around 2,000 international participants in addition to the delegates from within the country. An international trade show featuring products and services for the aquaculture industry will also be organised, the organisers said.
