A mega carnival will be conducted in RK Beach Eight events planned to focus importance of the region VISAKHAPATNAM: With a view to showcasing the tourist potential in four districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam and East Godavari districts to the global tourists, the Air Travellers Association (India), in association with AP Tourism, Visakhapatnam Port Trust, Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation and Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority, is conducting the ‘Regional Summit on Tourism’ on February 13,14 and 15. This was disclosed by Chairman of Port Trust, Ajeya Kallam, Commissioner, GVMC, V.N. Vishnu and president of ATA (India) D. Varada Reddy at a press conference here on Friday. Mr. Ajeya Kallam referred to the immense tourist potential in the four districts and said the proposed expos on industries, health, education and the Mega Carnival would be special attractions. Ideal locations were selected for these proposals, he said. While the carnival would be held in RK Beach, the Travel Mart and Industrial and Health Expos would be organised at YMCA beach road. Asserting that there were as many as 200 tourist destinations in the four districts, Mr. Vishnu said that the main focus would be to attract international tourists. “We have all ingredients to make the region an international tourist destination,” he said. According to him, provision of quality accommodation to international tourists, air connectivity, guides who could communicate in English and Hindi, would have to be ensured. Travel agencies dedicated to the development of tourism in the region was the need of the hour. Mr. Varada Reddy asserted that this region consisting of the four districts had more number of tourist destinations than in any other part of the country. They need to be show-cased properly to attract tourists from all parts. Air connectivity was a problem, he said adding that Singapore is likely to be connected by June this year. Buddhist sitesThere are 33 Buddhists sites in the region and this would be of special interest to international tourists, he said. Eight major events were planned for focussing the importance of this region in terms of tourism importance, he said.
