tense moments: Samaikhyandhra Joint Action Committee members force their way into the district Collector’s office as part of dharna, in Guntur on Friday, while police stop them.

GUNTUR: Members of political Joint Action Committee supporting the ‘Maha Padayatra’ by students of 14 universities of Andhra Pradesh, has given a strong retort to Telangana leader Damodar Reddy’s statement on not allowing the yatra to enter Telangana districts by staging a dharna in front of Guntur district Collector’s office on Friday.

Telugu Desam Party district president Prattipati Pulla Rao, Ponnur MLA Dhulipalla Narendra Kumar, Congress Minority Cell leader Hidayat, Samajwadi Party leaders and PRP leaders held a dharna in front of the Collectorate for two-and-a-half hours and later barged into the Collector’s office complex facing stiff resistance from police.

Vehemently opposing the statements of Telangana leaders, Mr. Pulla Rao said that the JAC was of the opinion that the Government should provide full protection to the Padayatra participants and in case it was stopped strong reaction would be witnessed in Andhra and Rayalaseema regions. “We propose to reach the entry point on Monday (February 8) when the Padayatra enters Nalgonda district as a moral boosting measure, if the Telangana people tired to put any hurdle,” he added.

Criticising the Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram for trying to divide and rule, Mr. Pulla Rao said that National Highways were not the personal property of Telangana people or KCR, none could stop the Samaikhyandhra people from going to Hyderabad as that was a joint property of all the people from three regions.

Expressing confidence that the yatra would reach Hyderabad in time and submit a memorandum to the Governor, Mr. Narendra said that the Congress was giving confusing statements and constituting Sri Krishna Committee was not proper. Government functioning had stopped functioning fully and giving confusing statements on December 9, 23rd and a committee without proper purpose was only dividing the people of the state and dividing state in no way serves the development agenda. The JAC leaders provided logistical support to the padayatris and propose to go there in after watching the situation on Saturday and Sunday.
