Eco Fest draws to a close

ECO CONCERNS: Students and environmentalists gather at Eco Fest-2010 that drew to a close at Nariyapuram, near Pathanamthitta, on Sunday.

PATHANAMTHITTA: Eco Fest-2010, environmental workshop for schoolchildren, organised by the Viswadarshanam Centre for Nature and Humanity and the district unit of the National Green Corps, drew to a close at the Viswadarshanam campsite at Nariyapuram, near here, on Sunday.

Eco-club members of various schools in different parts of the district participated in the four-day event.

Various environment awareness programmes, competitions, seminars and exhibitions were held as part of the festival.

A seminar on ‘Lifestyle change for climate change’ was inaugurated by K.N.B Kurup, district coordinator of the State Biodiversity Board, on Sunday. N.K. Sukumaran Nair, general secretary of the Pampa Parirakshana Samithi; Umesh Babu, director of the Viswadarshanam Centre for Nature and Humanity; Baiju V. Pillai and S. Dileepkumar, environmentalists; addressed the seminar.

A documentary on plastic menace made by the eco-club at Sree Atmananda Memorial School, Malakkara, was screened.

Environmentalist and documentary filmmaker C. Rahim presented awards to the best performing eco-clubs in the district.

A seminar on food security by the Christian Agency for Rural Development-Krishi Vigyan Kendra at Thelliyur and another on ‘Clean and green environment’ were held as part of the workshop.
