Kozhikode: The three-day national convention of the Network of Women in Media, India (NWMI) concluded here on Sunday with the suggestion that the assessment of development and empowerment should not be based on the development indices alone. Negative trendsThe eighth edition of the convention called upon the media organisations to be with the public in the fight against negative trends such as ‘paid news.’ Discussions A discussion on “The state, media and terrorism” was held during the morning session followed by an interactive session on “The politics of veiling and unveiling,” attended by Jesmi and Khadeeja Mumtaz, writers, on the concluding day. The media persons paid a visit to the Institute of Palliative Medicine on the Government Medical College campus here in the afternoon. Suresh Kumar, Director of the institute, and Manoj presented papers on palliative care and mental health, respectively, for the benefit of the visitors. Usha Nangyar, artiste, performed Nangyar Koothu at the institute’s auditorium.
