Mysore: A special police team, which has been probing the case of a missing school student in Nanjangud since 17 months, has arrested a person who is said to have confessed to murdering the child. The accused has been identified as Mahadevkumar (30). He is the son of a school teacher and is said to have confessed to have abducted and killed C.G. Sharan, a fourth standard student of the Citizens School at Nanjangud. The Inspector-General of Police (Southern Range) Jeevankumar Gaonkar told presspersons here on Sunday that Sharan was reported missing on August 26, 2008 following which his parents lodged a complaint and the police launched an investigation. The team investigating the missing child’s case visited Citizens School and interacted with Sharan’s friends who disclosed that Sharan was seen with a stranger who had a black coloured motorcycle and identified the brand of the two-wheeler. Working on the clue, the police team launched a search to look for persons known to the family members of Sharan and zeroed in on Mahadevkumar who confessed to have murdered Sharan and disposed off the body in a canal. Mr. Gaonkar said the motive behind the abduction was to seek ransom from Sharan’s parents but Mahendrakumar did not execute the plan but allegedly murdered the child.
