HYDERABAD: Vimala Narasimhan, wife of Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan, on Sunday appealed to all parents to take their children aged under five years to the pulse polio booths and make sure that they were immunised against the ‘dreadful’ polio disease and make the State and the country polio-free.
She addressed an impressive gathering at Raj Bhavan -- comprising Health Minister D. Nagender, Principal Secretary (Health) J. Satyanarayana, Collector Naveen Mittal, Mayor Banda Karthika Chandra Reddy and DM&HO Ch. Jayakumari -- after administering polio drops to 20-25 children.
Officials said 63,766 booths were opened across the State for administering oral polio vaccine on Sunday to an estimated 98,69,588 children. The children will be covered by the house-to-house visits by teams on February 8, 9 and 10.
Also, special efforts were being made to cover all children in the risk group -- nomadic, beggars, tribals and fishermen.
Steps were being taken to cover children in transit through teams at airports and railway/bus stations.
