Hunger strike observed

HOSUR: Over 500 members of the Joint Action Group, including women and children, staged a hunger strike in front of the Hosur railway station on Sunday demanding direct rail link between Hosur and Jolarpet and highlighting 13 other demands.

The Joint Action Group has been formed by 12 associations headed by the Hosur Payanigal Mempattu Sangam.

The other association which forms part of the JAG are Hosur Small and Tiny Industries Association, All Trade Unions, Federation of Residents Welfare Association, Traders Associations, Social Service Organisations, All India Construction and Unorganised Labourers Association, Construction Workers Association, farmers’ associations and Physically Handicapped Persons Association.

The demands include direct rail link to Jolarpet from Hosur as it would pave for direct train service to the port city of Chennai, regularisation of seasonal Bangalore-Nagercoil train service, daily train service to Chennai via Bangalore from Hosur, increasing the frequency of train services from Mysore and Tanjavur and introduction of new train service to Ramanathapuram.

K.A. Manoharan, former Congress MLA, Ramachandran, MDMK, Hosur Town Secretary, T. Ramachandran, CPI MLA from Thali constituency, Durai, President, Federation of Residents Welfare Association, and R. Ramalingam, President, Hosur Small and Tiny Industries Association, spoke.
