Farmers asked to increase milk procurement

Rajahmundry: Managing Director of AP Dairy Development Corporation (APDDC) Harpreet Singh has said Rs.1 crore has been released for development of Godavari Dairy in Dowleswaram.

Tenders for works costing Rs.1 crore were called and they would be taken up soon, Mr. Singh said at a review meeting he held along with Collector Gopalakrishna Dwivedi with officials, including those from APDDC, and Godavari Dairy farmers. Though the Chief Minister announced the amount long ago, it was released recently, he added. He asked farmers to procure highest quantity of milk in villages and suggested constitution of village-level committees. He also suggested to the area committees to elect a leader to form a district federation to represent the problems of farmers effectively. When farmers referred to support price of Rs. 32 and Rs. 33 being given to farmers in other dairies, Mr. Singh said that the APDDC was ready to pay Rs. 32 as support price if any village procured 250 litres of milk per day. He observed that when the former Chief Minister Rajasekhara Reddy reopened the Godavari Dairy, the procurement was 33,000 litres. “It has fallen to 12,000 litres now,” he said.
