NEW DELHI: Turkish business conglomerate Celebi Holding, which has bagged contracts from Delhi International Airport Private Ltd (DIAL) and Mumbai International Airport Private Ltd., on Monday announced that it aims to invest $100 million in the Indian aviation sector by the end of this year. Speaking at a conference organised by infrastructure major GMR, Celebi Holding vice-chairperson Canan Celebioglu Tokgoz said investments would take place in new equipment, warehouses and cargo, adding that Celebi Holding is interested in expanding its operations to Indian metros and non-metros. The conglomerate, reportedly the largest Turkish investor in the Indian aviation sector, will bring in contemporary ground handling equipment, quality IT software for resource and operation planning and rostering to India. Delhi International Airport Limited has also signed a 25-year concession agreement with Celebi Hava Servisi to upgrade, modernise, finance, operate, maintain and manage the international cargo terminal at Delhi airport. A GMR-led consortium was also responsible for the operation and development of Turkey’s Sabiha Gokcen International Airport. Turkey’s Transport and Communications Minister Binali Yildirim said: “Before the global recession, trade between Turkey and India was nearly $3 billion while after the downturn, trade dropped to $2 billion. Still the potential is very good. The two countries should expand their relationship.”
