A quiz turns into a celebrity act

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: It was a quiz show with a difference. In fact, it was very little quiz and more of a show. What else does one expect when the quizmaster is Shah Rukh Khan!

The second edition of the IIPM International Quiz was held here on Monday at the 3,000-seater Koramangala Indoor Stadium. The ticket-based show — a cool Rs.1,000 each — had frenzied fans thronging the stadium, eager to catch a glimpse of their favourite actor.

When the show started a good 90 minutes late, Shah Rukh Khan gave them much more than what they had hoped for.

Introduced by IIPM founder Arindam Chaudhuri, Shah Rukh Khan stepped dramatically on to a movable platform, making his entry nearly Michael Jackson-esque.

Speaking a few lines in Kannada, he said he had fond memories of his childhood days in Bangalore.

While he stepped into the shoes of a quizmaster with finesse, the format of the show was such that he was required to dance, sing and reel off dialogues from his blockbusters.

The crowd, of course, loved it all, going berserk every time he shook a leg or rattled off a cinematic piece.

With dance shows at intervals and small game shows taking up a lot of time, it was easy to forget the main event: the quiz show, of course. The quiz, which had participants from about 115 counties, saw six teams participating in the final.
