Fellowships likely to be doubled

Kakinada: A proposal to double the fellowships under Women Scientists Scheme (WSS) is under the active consideration of Department of Science and Technology (DST). The DST is keen on increasing the fellowships to encourage more women to take up research in basic and applied sciences, said DST Officer–in–Charge Hari B. Singh. Addressing a Women Scientist Sensitisation programme at JNTU-Kakinada on Tuesday, Mr. Singh said A monthly fellowship of Rs. 10,000 is being paid now to women scientists possessing post – graduate degrees equivalent to M.Sc in basic / applied sciences, B.Tech in engineering sciences and MBBS or other similar qualifications.

The fellowship is Rs. 20,000 per month in respect of women having Ph.D in basic or applied sciences, M.Tech in engineering sciences and MD / MS or DM / MCH in medical sciences.
