Bollinger stars in Australia win

ADELAIDE: Doug Bollinger took four for 28 as Australia thumped West Indies by eight wickets at the Adelaide Oval here on Tuesday, taking a 2-0 lead in the five-ODI series.

Shane Watson (53, 50b, 7x4, 2x6) and Ricky Ponting (57 not out, 55b, 8x4, 2x6) set things up nicely for Australia, which romped home in 26.3 overs after being set a target of 170.

Michael Clarke and Ponting added 72 in 11.2 overs in an unbeaten third-wicket association.

Earlier, West Indies skipper Chris Gayle elected to bat and was out first ball, trapped in front by Bollinger. West Indies found itself on 16 for four in the seventh over as Bollinger and Clint McKay struck telling blows. Travis Dowlin snicked McKay to Brad Haddin, Runako Morton went the same way as Gayle — leg-before to Bollinger — and Lendl Simmons played a horrible shot when he edged the left-arm pace bowler to the wicketkeeper.

Narsingh Deonarine (23) and Denesh Ramdin (30) stuck around to add 46 runs for the fifth wicket — West Indies’ highest partnership of the match — and Dwayne Bravo (43) and Ravi Rampaul (18) ensured their bowlers had something to bowl at with a 45-run alliance for the ninth wicket.

The 170 total, however, did not test the Aussies.
