Injured Minister coming by special plane

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: An Indian Air Force aircraft with the required medical support on board will bring back the injured Minister of Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi to Chennai on Wednesday night from Abidjan, the capital of Ivory Coast.

Mr. Ravi had been admitted in a hospital in this western African country following injuries suffered in an accident in Monrovia in Liberia on February 4.

Mr. Ravi was given initial treatment in Monrovia before being shifted to Abidjan. He was injured after a taxi rammed into his car as he was on the way to the airport to catch a flight to Nigeria, the next leg of his African visit.

Official sources said Mr. Ravi had a “miraculous ‘’ escape and suffered no major injuries. His health is stable and he is recovering well.

In a statement, the Minister expressed gratitude to the Indian community and others who assisted in his recovery.

He thanked the Prime Minister and the Defence Minister for making arrangements for his return by a special aircraft.
