Security to be tight around Assembly

HYDERABAD: Speaker N. Kiran Kumar Reddy has directed the police to step up security around the Assembly for the ensuing budget session to prevent any trouble in view of the current agitations.

During a meeting with senior police officials ahead of the budget session commencing on February 15, Mr. Reddy is understood to have sought deployment of additional force at all the entrances to the Assembly. He told the officials that tight security cordon should be thrown around the premises and the roads leading to it.

He reportedly asked the police to be extra-cautious at the Osmania Gate entrance and prevent trouble-makers. Anticipating trouble from the pro-Telangana and united Andhra Pradesh legislators, he is believed to have asked the Chief Marshal to increase the number of marshals. As against 45 deployed in the winter session, the strength has been enhanced to 60.

Sources said the Speaker instructed the police officials to prevent any protest demonstrations on the Assembly premises. The meeting was attended by DGP R.R. Girish Kumar, Principle Secretary, Home, P. Gautam Kumar, City Police Commissioner A.K. Khan, IGP (Intelligence) M. Mahender Reddy and senior police officials Balasubramaniam, P. Hari Kumar and P.S.R. Anjaneyulu.
