Telugu Desam demands Rosaiah Cabinet to quit

Special Correspondent

Accuses government of failing to ensure quota for Muslim minorities

Fiery protest: TDP functionaries burning an effigy of the government in Kadapa on Tuesday.

KADAPA: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) functionaries staged a dharna at Seven Roads Junction here and burnt an effigy of the State government on Tuesday demanding the Rosaiah Cabinet to quit owning moral responsibility for failing to ensure continuation of reservations for Muslim minorities.

TDP district vice-president S. Subhan Basha alleged that the Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy had announced 5 per cent reservations for Muslim minorities and came to power. None believed the Telugu Desam Party, although it promised 3 per cent reservations to Muslims, he said. Reservations were announced in the State to woo Muslim voters unlike in any other State.

The reservations, which were not legally tenable, were struck down by the High Court and hence the government owed an explanation to the minorities, he said. The protesters also raised slogans demanding the resignation of Minister for Minority Welfare Mohd. Ahmedullah.

TDP city president B. Arifullah said the High Court ruling proved that the reservations for Muslims were farcical. Muslims should realise the dubiousness behind the quota and take a right decision for their future.

TDP State secretaries S. Goverdhan Reddy and Redyam Venkatasubba Reddy and leaders S. Jilani Basha, Ansar Basha, Jayachandra, Sankar and other participated.
