Kodiyeri: cases against Munnar encroachers

Staff Reporter

ALAPPUZHA: The State government is committed to evicting all encroachers from the Munnar hill station and police cases will be registered against all encroachers including the Tata group, Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has said.

Speaking to reporters after inaugurating a new block, conference hall and a restroom for the Mavelikara Sub-Jail here on Tuesday, Mr. Balakrishnan said Inspector-General of Police (Ernakulam range) B. Sandhya had visited Munnar as per a directive of the government. The police would register cases against all encroachers, and none, including the Tata group, would be spared.

Earlier, addressing a gathering after a visit to the Mavelikara Bar Association, the Home Minister said the State government was actively considering the setting up of evening courts. A family court in Mavelikara and a new department, Administration of Justice Department, were under active consideration, given the huge number of pending court cases.

Pointing out that there were about 16 lakh pending cases in courts across the State, he said 14 lakh cases were being settled every year. The number of courts and infrastructure remained the same though the number of cases continued to rise. There were plans for village courts under the Centre’s Gram Nyayalaya scheme, he added.
