Death sentence changed to life term

Kochi: A Division Bench of the Kerala High court on Tuesday commuted to life imprisonment the death sentence awarded to a 35-year-old accused for murdering a four-member family in November 2005. The Bench comprising Justice Basant and Justice Hari Rani passed the verdict on an appeal filed by Nawaz, the accused. The court also directed that the accused shall not be given parole or remission of sentence before completing 30 years in prison. The accused was sentenced to death by the Thrissur Sessions court. Acting on another appeal, the Bench set aside the death sentence awarded by the Thrissur Sessions Court to Jayanandan for murdering a couple. — Special Correspondent
