‘Mazhavillu’ film fete from February 17

The five-day event will have 100 short films in various categories.


KOCHI: The International Film Festival, Mazhavillu-VIBGYOR that provides a platform for documentaries, short films, animation, music albums, spots and experimental cinemas, will be conducted from February 17 to 21 at the Sangeetha Nataka Akademi Regional Theatre, Thrissur.

The highlight of the fifth edition of the festival is the presence and retrospective package of filmmaker Ruhi Hamid.

The films of Mr. Hamid are a journey through the happenings of contemporary world and have been screened at various film festivals.

Brazilian package

Andre Luiz Oliveira, the Brazilian documentary and short filmmaker will also be part of the festival with his films in a Brazilian package.

The five-day event will have at least 100 short films in various categories.

The focus of the year is South Asia: Justice-Peace-Democracy.

Sri Lankan filmmaker Dharmasiri Bhandaranayake is among those who will be part of the event. Under the special package include films on climate change and the Kerala Spectrum includes films based on life and times in Kerala.

Screening in schools

A number of organisers, including the Chetana Media Institute, Nottam, Sense, Navachitra Film Society, Visual Search in association with Kerala Chalachitra Academy, Information and Public Relations department, Thrissur Corporation and Thrissur District Panchayat have grouped together under the VIBGYOR film collectives banner.

The festival screenings will be held in five panchayats and in schools and colleges too that become part of the Mazhavillu festival.

Besides, the festival offers an opportunity for the public to meet various international film activists, attend seminars and other cultural events.
